The Latest (SJD): FIGHTER BOOK – Manafest

Fighterbanner_INSTORESNOW

Have you ever had a week or a day when you couldn’t stop listening to the first artist you played? Well it’s been about 2-3 weeks and Manafest has gotten a hold of my ears.

Manafest with Fighter Book

Chris Greenwood, AKA “Manafest,” has released his debut book entitled, “FIGHTER: Five Keys to Conquering Fear and Reaching Your Dreams” 10/15/2013. Before the release of his book, Manafest wanted to see if his fans would support his vision, so he started up his project on PledgeMusic March 1, 2013. He received 365 pledges, ours being one of them. He reached his goal April 18, 2013. Chris went above and beyond what a typical artist would normally do for their backers Those who pledged, know what I mean.

Part off his pledge to those who backed him was that he would have a digital and audio copy of the book. For some this might not be important, but for me it was. Personally, I don’t like to read. Upon the start of reading his book I stopped to appreciate that, Manafest, himself, was reading aloud, his book, something most authors don’t do. This got me excited and, from then on, I couldn’t put his book down. Once I started, I found that I sat there reading and listening to his book for 2hrs & 38mins (I added songs from his Fighter album and the song “The Chase” in between each chapter before I started to read).

Manafest Quote

In his book, he covers “Five Keys to Conquering Fear and Reaching Your Dreams” which are: courage, perseverance, mindset, discipline, and will power. While he walks you through the 5 keys, he fills it with stories of his life, how he had to step out and get out of his comfort zone little by little, and what other people did to help him along the way. After each chapter, Chris adds “ACTION STEPS,” which are designed to get you to put your thoughts on paper, set goals, dates, and deadlines. This all to help you conquer your fears and reach your dreams.

The good news doesn’t stop here. Manafest is back in the studio, in his homeland of Canada, working on some vocals for his new album. He also released his newest song back in August, “Overboard.” Check it out; it’s so good.

Looking forward to supporting Manafest throughout his career. His albums get better and better every time. FIGHTER: Five Keys To Conquering Fear And Reaching Your Dreams is an #SJDMustOwn.

The Latest (ARG): We Are Young And Free – Hillsong Young & Free

Hillsong Young & Free banner

Hillsong. It’s a household name that is nearly synonymous with music, thanks to the global church’s extensive ministry in that field. Countless people, no matter what their beliefs, have heard the names of the ministry’s top musical divisions: Australia-based Hillsong United and Hillsong Live. Both groups focus on including contemporary guitar-infuenced musical styles in their productions, with United now embracing more of a synth-heavy rock sound.

However, if you’ve ever tuned into mainstream radio, there is virtually no sound of a strumming guitar to be heard. The youth today find their ear-candy in songs that drive the listener to dance. Although floor-shaking bass lines and loud, electronic beats are no doubt sounds that draw the young generation in, they are rarely experienced in churches today; in fact, some congregations even treat them as taboo.

What many Christians unfortunately do not realize is that the same tools that are used for the world’s system can be used for the Kingdom…to an even greater extent. To make another point, if we have God on our side, shouldn’t the world be coming to us for inspiration, not vice versa? [Okay, time to put my ranting aside.]

The Hillsong church has been known for rising up and setting standards in the Christian music scene, and 2013 marks the year that they’ve done it again- with their own youth.
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Young & Free.

All I have to say is this:
“Finally.”

Hillsong Young & Free captures the essence of surrendered, thankful worship…but in the package of catchy, upbeat pop songs that will make any listener leave their chair and jump the floor with praise. It’s the sound of our generation, used for God’s glory, in a fresh and original mix of music fueled by passionate hearts and minds. What more could a listener want?

Isaiah 60:1 comes into mind when I think of Y&F:
“Rise up and shine, for your light has come. The shining-greatness of the Lord has risen upon you.” It’s time for God’s people to rise up and make their mark on this planet. And Hillsong Young & Free is doing just that with their debut album,We Are Young and Free, released the first of October. The album is trendsetting in its own right, featuring a blend of upbeat electro-pop worship and some synth rock tones as well. It all comes together to make a project that is more-than-worthy of an addition to any Christian music and worship lover’s collection. Well done, Y&F.

SJD Exclusive (SJD): Introducing – Skylar Kaylyn

1.Cover.2

Skylar Kaylyn is one talented young lady. It has been a privilege to have been able to promote her on her musical journey. In this post, you will get to know more about what makes her so special. Mind you, we interviewed her awhile back and Sky has grown up some since then. We are very proud of all that she has been able to accomplish so far.
Sky approached us on our Facebook Fan Page almost a year ago. As I delved into her work and watched her music video, I realized that she has a genuine love for God. Wanting to know more about who this Skylar Kaylyn was, I messaged her asking if she would be interested in doing an interview with us. She graciously agreed. You can watch it here on our website, for the first time.

October 8th 2013, we released another video from when we interviewed her. In this video Skylar took the time to explain the meaning behind her song, “I’m Yours”. Check it out…

I believe that Skylar, throughout her music career, will impact this generation, showing that if you chase your dreams you will catch them. We look forward to hearing more from her in the future.

The Latest (SJD): The Glorious Unfolding – Steven Curtis Chapman

Steven Curtis Chapman Banner

Steven Curtis Chapman is back and is better then ever! The legendary artist has just released his 18th studio album, The Glorious Unfolding. It is most assuredly a masterpiece and is available everywhere, TODAY. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to his single, “Love Take Me Over,” now is your chance.

Steven Curtis Chapman has been a household name in our family for as long as I can remember. I grew up listening to my parents playing his inspirational tunes. I believe we collectively own every one of his albums. To me, all of Steven’s songs are timeless. The message his music conveys is always  pure, powerful and passionate because it is generated from a heart that truly knows Jesus.
In his new album, Steven expresses his love for his family in a few of his songs such as, “SEE You In A Little While” and “Michael And Maria”.  Another very special song for him is “Together”, which he wrote to his wife, Mary Beth. Steven and Mary Beth celebrate 29 years of marriage this October.
The Glorious Unfolding, like many of his other albums, can turn any bad day into a good day and a good day into a great day!  I guarantee, as you plug into and join the spirit of this album, you will find some new favorites unfolding right before your eyes. I know I have.

SJD’s In The Moment: Let Them See You – Colton Dixon

Colton Dixon Banner_v1

While I was working yesterday, I scrolled through my music and decided to play Colton Dixon’s debut album, A Messenger. There was one song that I couldn’t stop listening to. I was compelled to continued playing the song over and over. I began to sing and proclaim the chorus lines at the top of my lungs. I could feel God begin to shine forth, warming my heart and bursting through me. The song was, “Let Them See You”.

If you haven’t ever seen Colton’s interview with Artisan News Service, it is definitely worth checking out. It is posted below. Start the interview at 1m 27s or just go ahead and watch the whole thing.

Colton is reflecting God’s love throughout his music and his everyday life. I dare you to strive to live your life His way and let the world see Him shine through you.

Also if you haven’t heard Colton has released a music video for “Never Gone” click here to check it out.

Album Review (ARG): Dara Maclean – Wanted

Dara Maclean Banner
“If you’re lonely, hurting, gone too far To the outcast you come as you are For you, you are wanted, you, you are wanted…”
…and so will be Dara MacLean’s new album, due for release on September 24, 2013.

Fans of Francesca Battistelli will notice a similarity between the two artists; but while listening to MacLean’s WANTED album, I fell into a relaxed, everything’s-gonna-be-alright mood (it’s not very often a reviewer can genuinely say such things of an album). It was as if the weight of life became a whole lot lighter.
MacLean is a master of expressing a strong, moving emotion in her voice, while simultaneously guiding the listener into a state of peace not often conveyed by musicians. Even on the album’s upbeat songs, it’s obvious that the primary focus is not only on the backing music, but on the unchanging love of the King.

The title track on WANTED is also the first, and it provides a sizzling introduction. The song features driving guitar licks and a solid catchy beat, but more importantly tells of how we are wanted by our loving Father (a theme that carries through every song, as aforementioned).

The song gives only a taste of MacLean’s vocal prowress; with songs like “Love Is” and “Step Into The Light”, the listener experiences the full characteristic ambience of Dara’s voice, her band, and even the choir (yes, a choir…an automatic A+ in my book). The irreststable “Nobody But You” hangs on the border between jazz and ska, with a poppy catch somewhere in between. It’s personally my favorite track on the album. Classic hand-clappers like these make me wonder why I don’t hear them more often.

The declarative “Only Hope” and the motivating “Set My People Free” are vocally-driven anthems, more closely resembling the familiar contemporary Christian music styles. “Blameless” and “You’re All I Need” display a change of gears to a slower, more serene rhythm, allowing even more passionate emotion to flow through MacLean’s singing. The moving lyrics in “Blamless” asserting God’s “holy and blameless” sight of us can bring a listener to tears.
“Now blameless, You call me worthy. I’ve been forgiven… You call me righteous and free.”

Music is a powerful tool. It can be used for God’s glory or it can be abused, and the WANTED album is a remarkable example of the former. Dara MacLean is destined to be a shining star on the music scene, and we at SJD give WANTED a major #mustown, and we hope to do so in the future as well!

SJD MFCL Exclusive (SJD): Q&A – Everfound

Everfound Banner

Everfound is band of four brothers that immigrated from Russia, with one goal in mind, to spread God’s love. They have quite a story about their journey. We were blessed with a chance to send them a few questions and get some of their story.

Q: How did they come up with their name?

A: Ruslan and Yan came up with the name Everfound while driving one day. It was random, but we quickly figured out that it ties to Romans 8, where God promises that nothing can separate us form His love in Jesus. Thats why we are Everfound.

Q: Did they always feel the calling for music?

A: We started piano at 6 years old, but felt a strong calling to use music as a way to tell people about the amazing love of God at around 13 or 14 years old.

Q: Who has impacted you on your journey?

A: Everyone we meet impacts us in some way. The biggest impact on our lives has come from discovering God’s truth in His word. It changes our lives daily. A huge influence are also our relationships with our parents, siblings, our grandmother, as well as our friends and fans.

Q: What is your vision/focus as a musicians?

A:  To glorify God by being increasingly better at communicating His love to people.

Q: If you were to pick a song on your debut album, which song means the most to you?

A:  We do not have favorites! However, our next single is God of the Impossible and it is a testimony of our family’s story of moving to America.

Q: Could you tell us the meaning and story behind the song you have chosen?

A: We wrote God of the Impossible as a reminder and encouragement that there is nothing we will face thats too big for our God. The song was inspired by our family’s journey to America. When my family lived in the Soviet Union, Christian radio stations were illegal. Yet Missionaries would set up radio stations across the boarder and broadcast the good news of Jesus behind the iron curtain. Despite the authorities trying to drown out the gospel, the message was still heard by my family and they were encouraged to live boldly for Christ amidst hardships and oppression. Today my brother’s and I write songs that are clearly heard on radio stations everywhere, and serve as a testimony of the power of GOD! We want our family’s story to encourage people to step out and trust God, because He truly is, the God of the impossible!
