When one looks into the beginnings of how Australian rock/worship project Hillsong United first contributed their voices to the ever-growing channel of church music, the mind cannot easily comprehend a comparison with where they are now. That group of kids (now adults) singing praises to their Creator at youth group have indeed flown “from glory to glory”; The boys and girls of United now tour the globe redefining the people’s definition of worship.
Readers may know United for pop/rock worship hits like “From The Inside Out”, “The Time Has Come”, and “The Stand”, but after shifting towards a more synth-driven rock sound prevalent in the bold 2011 release Aftermath, the band continues their legacy with songs such as “Go” and “Rhythms Of Grace”.
The year 2013 marks a continuation of what Aftermath started, with the band’s third studio record ZION. In addition to a fresh batch of eighteen* passionate anthems, the album’s landing also brought about a change in those who composed it.
In the description for ZION’s YouTube trailer, band leader Joel Houston writes:
“In the aftermath of Aftermath, we all took a little break and in that time caught a fresh vision for what it is that we do, why we do it and what it means to be a part of the church; not just our church, but ‘the’ Church…The whole point of this album is the realization that God is doing His thing, and He has already done it, He is establishing His Church, and it’s through us.”
“For the Lord has chosen Zion, he has desired it for his dwelling place: ‘This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I desired it’.” Psalms 132:13-14 ESV
ZION was released to iTunes and music stores internationally on February 26, 2013.
The United crew has devised a clever setup to coincide with ZION’s release. The music video for “Relentless” (track number one on the album) will not be released until fans have shared it’s link 300,000 times. As of 10:50 PM the counter has reached 153,935. Start sharing!
