The Latest (ARG): Swallow The Ocean – Newsong

NewSong [Swallow The Ocean]There are not many musical definitions of “groundbreaking” quite like seven-member worship group Newsong- and no, I don’t mean the Newsboys. The year 1981 marked the start of a long and prosperous career for the Valdosta, Georgia natives. Since then, the band continues to thrive far beyond expectations, as they have delivered more to Christian music in thirty years than several others, although some listeners may indeed overlook them or confuse their name.

If you aren’t familiar with the band, you’ll know them by one of their several multi-generational classics, such as “Can’t Keep A Good Man Down”; “The Christmas Shoes”; and one of their biggest hits, the romantic “When God Made You”. Along with rock-and-roll to touching melodies, worship has become a growing staple of their songs, as in the case of their brand-new single, “Swallow The Ocean”, off their soon-to-be-released twenty-sixth album of the same name. Could it be clearer that lead singer Russ Lee is attesting truth to the God that brought them through over thirty years of ministry? We at SJD think not.

Newsong is one of those artists that not only writes song to God, but has the blessing from Him permeating nearly every aspect of their career. In addition to the GRAMMY nominations and countless souls led to Christ through their work, one particular feat of Newsong’s comes to mind: the legendary Winter Jam Spectacular, America’s largest annual Christian music event (known to have hosted gigs by RED, Tobymac, and the Newsboys). The tour is founded and anchored by the band members themselves.

Newsong’s latest record, Swallow The Ocean debuts February 26, 2013; and log on to http://www.jamtour.com for Winter Jam 2013 tourdate info.
