Whether it’s the tantalizing appeal of a freshly prepared gingerbread house, the crisp aroma of a freshly cut pine tree, or simply the mutual cheer shared by friends and family…you can’t miss those contagious Christmas symptoms. And on top of all the lights, ribbons, and just plain fluff, the air is filled with “Jingle Bells”, “Frosty The Snowman”, and all the other holiday classics; either in their original composition, or re-dubbed by today’s top artists. It’s the typical magic of the festivities, revisited year after year.
Typical, that is, until you hear shredding gritty guitars and blazing fast drum fills echoing out of your stereo. Most know metal when they hear it, but it often takes listeners by surprise during the holidays- especially if it’s “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”. Perhaps the guys from August Burns Red like to throw in a twist now and then. Their new album is indeed a collection of thirteen Christmas tracks, and albeit mostly devoid of screamo vocals, the band’s compositions speak for themselves. Despite going against the norm, August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill- A Holiday Album was released on October 5, 2012 to an eager audience, and features an all-new song, called “Flurries“:
